Bah Humbug

Thank goodness it's over. I am a Scrooge when it comes to the 4th of July. I am as patriotic as the next guy but I don't think we need to celebrate our independence burning up the flora and terrorizing the fauna. It was a war zone around my house last night. Fireworks have gotten totally out of hand. The only bad thing, that I can think of, about living on the water is that everyone and their uncle comes here to get drunk and blow up something. It must be a guy thing because I heard no female voices WOO HOOING. We had air horns, every kind of firecracker, loud bad country music from across the bay until about 2 in the morning. Everyone around us had hours of fireworks at their disposal. And dispose they did, right into the bay. I thought we were becoming more enlightened about our environment but apparently we aren't.
Maybe it's just me. I have always hated loud noises. As a child I would cover my ears while everyone enjoyed the fireworks display. Now as an adult, I see the animals scared and confused and I like it even less.
Today is a new day. We are going to finish the nursery pen for Cora Belle and Filbert. And get ready for it to all start again. You see it's Saturday night and the 4th of July will last all weekend around here.
Bah Humbug.

I hear ya. I had one neighbor, I think, who was especially prolific until about 11:30pm. I guess I should be thankful it wasn't longer, right? We have a fireworks ban here, only July 3 and 4 are legal. I wonder if anyone else knows that!!!? Hope so. Hope you survive the weekend safe and sane.

We celebrate the fourth and I enjoy the colors, but the noise is SO not for me!! LOL The 4th around here is like a WEEK - NO KIDING - a week long. The drinking started on Tuesday because most people try to take off 2 days before the 4th... we dont partake in that part either... just a bunch of bummers here LOL Good luck on your pens.. :)

Oh, it's such a breath of fresh air to read your post and realize that fireworks, beer and loud music are not a right and a neccessity for the 4th of July.

I am very grateful to be living out here in the mountains because most people move out here for peace and quiet, fresh clean air and ground, and dark, star-filled skies.

And they like their privacy. And most folks have animals, especially horses. And horse don't like fireworks.

But, we did have a handful of fireworks in our valley last night, except it wasn't like a war zone, and they ended by 9:30pm. Thank goodness.

We lost our german shepherd during a fireworks bonanza in our old neighborhood in SC. This was over 17 years ago, and we'd only lived there for a month.
Our dog jumped the fence and some awful people took her and tried to keep her, even though she was wearing a collar with our phone # and vet info on it!

One day, about 2 weeks after July 4th, my hubby was driving down the road and saw our dog in the back of someone's SUV. He honked like mad and chased that car down.
When they stopped, and he said "You've got MY dog!!", they just let her out and then took off!

They had removed her old collar with our tags and info, even.

So, no. I do not like fireworks in residential areas.
I'm glad I'm not the only one.
