Not so Lucky
Something (a huge raccoon as big as the neighbor's dog) got two of my not so lucky ducks. The beautiful green-headed male and one of his wives. Whatever it was (a huge raccoon as big as the neighbor's dog) couldn't get in so pulled them through the wire.
The remaining three are quite traumatized and are recovering in the chicken coop.
I was equally traumatized when I found my dog, Grace, chewing on something...it was the green-headed drake's bill.
Bad doggy!

Oh Wendy, I am so sorry. That is very traumatic and just horrible I know to see the dog’s new chew toy. Raccoons can be so menacing-cute in pictures but predators for sure. If you are up to it--link this up with Farm Friend Friday at Verde Farm.
Hugs to you,
Amy
So sorry to hear that. It's hard to keep those duckies safe sometimes.
Oooph! That's awful.
I'm so sorry Wendy.
Oh noooo.... :-(
So sorry, Wendy.
Want me to show you another picture of that messy closet?
yes please, farmgirl
I'm so sorry about your ducks! Raccoons are bad about pulling things through the wire. My dad lost 2 peacocks through 1 inch wire to raccoons. It was really bad. I can only imagine the trauma you and your other ducks have experienced.
Done. Sent to you in gmail.
I'm so embarrassed.
:-)
Raccoons are the worst, Years ago a 40 pound raccoon got into the coop at night, grabbed my favorite chicken and pulled it through the wire fence. Horrific to find in the morning. The raccoon came back the next night, with kits, to teach them how to snatch chickens. I now lock my hens in. If you can, I'd dispatch that raccoon.
Oy. I'm so sorry. We have big raccoons too. Thankfully one only showed his face once in broad daylight. The goatfather sprayed him with the hose and he didn't come back after that (at least in the day). But we know they are around just the same. I'm sure the goatmother has a messy closet picture she could send you. :)
Ha, ha, ha...Marigold! Don't you go offering up things like that until you talk to the Goatmother!
:-)
I hate predators. Give the puppy a better chew toy. Bleh. Sorry to hear about the ducks.
