This is Semi-Sweet. She is a 7 year old Nigerian Dwarf that has kidded once about 5 years ago. Since then she has been a lady of leisure. Last year she was dying for babies. She was one big raging hormone. She even bagged up but I knew she wasn't with kid because there hadn't been a buck around. This year I decided to breed her to the handsome Captain January so she spent about a week in the honeymoon suite.
She would be due around June 8th...I think. Since then she has not made me feel very confident about her being pregnant. She has continued to be one raging hormone. She is acting very bucky and has been chasing the other girls around and at times acting like she is in heat....but that's hard to tell because she always acts like she's in heat.
Once again, this year she is bagging up and getting a bit of a tummy. I put her in the milking stand last week and could feel nothing. Not a kick to give me hope.
So I took pictures of her faux udder that I am deep down hoping is a true udder.
If you look at something long enough you can imagine anything. I am imagining that her tail is even changing and getting little hollow places along the top. My mind is telling me she's not pregnant but my heart still hopes to have some Nigerian babies this year....and some sweet candy milk.

I hope it's the real thing! My girls just kidded two weeks ago. It's been wonderful. Milk + Babies = Happy Family.

But heck, what do I know. I don't know a pregnant udder from a non-pregnant one. But we can still hope, can't we?
Do you have a stethoscope or something for better listening?
Isn't there an over-the-counter caprine pregnancy test or something you can run down to the market for?

Well, Wendy, I have no goat knowledge whatsoever, but I'll throw a guess out there: menopause! Do goats go through the change?

But, I too, will be thinking positive pregnancy thoughts. For your goat that is. Im done having babies. Im just sayin.
Oh Goatgirl, you're the expert here! :-D We just had a buck arrive at Ishtar's Ark. It only took him three days to serve our big doe Esmeralda, and now he's working his charms with Allis. We hear her scream in protest from time to time, so I'm not sure what's happening, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets it his way in the end. Do goats generally change character when they're on heat?
If pregnancy isn't "udderly" obvious, what about her girth? Has she expanded from normal? When ours are about to have twins or triplets, they look as if they'd explode like a water balloon if they got pricked by a sharp stem of hay. But then again, if the goat is prone to eating herself silly and is normally rotund anyway, and is only going to have a singleton, it can be hard to tell. Good luck!

I hope she is pregnant, sounds like she really wants to be and you want her to be, too. Is there a certain age that they can't kid anymore?
Well, I dunno. This happens to Ella with either too much grain or lots of fresh spring grass. I guess you'll just have to wait and see. Peanuts are a lot easier to deal with if you ask me.

OK everyone, after much poking and prodding last night I really don't think she is PG. Her tail is very tight and would be a lot mushier if she were going to kid in a few weeks. Darn. Another faux udder year.
Well there is always next year.
Hmmm...oh well. That was pretty much your hunch all along. But how will Semi-Sweet respond? Have you broken the news to her yet? Or will she continue (through her faux udder and hormonal attitude) to insist that she really is pregnant? Poor girl.
