Why?

Why would someone cut nice neat square holes in my fence along the road? What was their intent? Was it to let my goats out or was it to steal them? Two squares were cut out of the fence and laid neatly over to invite curious goats out of their pasture and into the road. Everyone says it's probably kids but the holes are so neatly cut with each wire cut the same length that to me it seems like an adult.........that just happens to have wire cutters in their pocket.

A mystery that has put my goats in jeopardy.

The temporary fix is not a good look either.

I don't know why anyone would do something like that. People are stupid.

That is odd. People will do the dumbest things. I hope you figure out the mystery.

Oh god! I would be completely freaking out. It does sound like some teenagers to me though... You got all your goats back, right?

DebH said...

well that would make me feel pretty vulnerable too. Not that its likely to happen again soon, but I would put some electicity to the fence or at least a sign that says "Smile for the camera please"
I'ld say kids, but I've had aults asking for young goats. I don't sell to anyone wanting "young goats". I'ld be lockin them in the barn at night for sure! You need a big LGD dog!

I agree with DebH - time for some hot wire! at least on the street side of the fence. Millie is right too. People are stupid. Fortunately your goats are smarter than those people! Maybe you could get one of those fake cameras that looks like a real surveillance camera and put it up with the suggested 'smile for the camera' sign. Oy. I hope it doesn't happen again!

Oh, the LGD is a good option too!

Oh no! A farmer up the road from me had her fences cut by someone "liberating" her dairy cows. I hope your vandal was from out of town and it was a one-time thing. On top of the worry, fencing is so expensive.

Hot wire the fence if you can afford it and put an inexpensive surveillance camera on a tree nearby.
These are the same kind of people that dump trash on our beautiful road and shoot at cows from the highway. NO Brains and too much time on their hands.
Please protect your animals from these stupid people.

I hate it when people mess with stuff that is not theirs. Best rule of thumb - if it ain't yours, don't touch it!

I caught a teenager peeing (yes, peeing) in my yard once and instead of getting mad, I went outside and pretended to want to be friends with him and his friends - I made corny jokes and laughed and asked if I could hang out with them. They left and have never been back. Every time I see them, I wave madly and smile! They think I'm nuts.

I hope you don't figure out who it was, it just makes it worse to know. I just hope it doesn't happen again. :-(

Depending on the local population, I'd be thinking someone was looking for meat. I like DebHs' idea. >:( What did the police say? Either adult or teenager, it's time to lay a paper trail.

That's concerning. I vote for some video cameras if at all possible. The neatness of the cuts suggests premeditated.

Wow, that takes some nerve.
