Rats

Recently, I was telling the teacher that I work with, as we were contemplating a class pet, that I couldn't stand anything that could jump on me.....like the lizard she took a picture of at Petco and sent me. It would have to live in a pretty dirty cage because I wouldn't put my hand in there. A snake I can handle. There is no jumping involved with them. The fear of something springing up when I don't expect it explains my fear of monkeys.

Little did I know I had jinxed myself.

On Saturday, I had just finished up cleaning the feed shed when I decided that I would clean out the drawers in the workbench. I reach down and gave the drawer a quick pull. Out of the drawer flew a big black rat.

And landed on my chest.

I screamed and thrashed while the terrified rat streaked around the tiny shed. Both trapped by the door, I screamed and flailed while he ran up every wall looking for escape.
When I say I screamed I mean I screamed like a little girl. After finally getting myself out of the shed and away from the rat, I sheepishly looked around at my neighbor's yards ready to let them know I wasn't being murdered.

But no one came so I went home and took a bath.

update: Rat has been popping out at me regularly now. He has made his nest on top of a box of Decon. There has been much screaming....and still no neighbors.

Tee hee hee. I'm sorry to laugh but that is a funny story. Rattie was probably very scared!

Well, that would freak me out too! You paint a funny visual, but I'd probably have done the same thing. Wild rats aren't something you want around!!!

Yegads I dislike rodents greatly as well! Our one lab is the best ratter I`ve ever seen.

Ah, 'tis the season. How about getting a live trap and taking Ms. Rat over to the inattentive neighbors'? ... smirk. Happy Halloween!

I would have fainted.... OMG! Snakes, birds, I can even handle bait for fishing. But that would have sent me over the edge. We just put out stuff for mice under our house as well. Hope it gets better.

Very funny--and I love where he has made his bed. I'm recommending a cat!

OMG! I can't believe you didn't die of fright right there on the spot!! I'm afraid I would have...can you imagine if it jumped in your face....NO no no, let's not even think about that!! What a crazy, October, almost Halloween story! :)
You better get your kitties on the job!

I HATE rats. Hate 'em with a passion. I'd have probably had a coronary.

My goodness - that sounds pretty exciting and - for any flies on the wall - quite entertaining!
I truly think my heart would've stopped had I had one of those things jump on my chest. Egad.

This is funny and horrible at the same time. You must have some farm animal around your place that could run the rat off, could goats annoy him out?

Farm dog, goose, barn cat?

Chai Chai, we have two farm cats that have been really good at ratting on the outside but they can't get into this shed so that's where he lives. I stuck the cat in the shed the other night but when I went out in the morning the cat was out of the shed.
Today we resort to more drastic measures.

Cats are so amazing, there was no way for them to get in and yet they somehow get out.

Lord all mighty! He jumped on your chest?! EEEEEKKKKK!!! I screamed like a girl when the Texas sized water bug ran up my arm. A rat would have caused a heart attack. Hope you catch him soon.
